Top FIVE Core Responsibilities of a Plan Manager

Want the low-down on what to expect from a plan manager? Get to know our top five core responsibilities and how they can help enhance a participant’s NDIS journey.

#1 Financial Management

As plan managers, we are responsible for managing the financial aspects of a participant's NDIS plan. This includes processing invoices and payments, budgeting, monitoring expenditure, and ensuring that funds are allocated appropriately to support the participant's goals and needs.

#2 Knowledge Sharing

By sharing our knowledge of the NDIS and the disability sector, plan managers can help participants better understand their NDIS plan and their plan funding. Sharing this knowledge can support participants to navigate the complexities of the NDIS system more effectively, ultimately enabling them to access the right supports and achieve their goals. It’s important to be transparent with participants and to collaborate with their support team to help ensure their NDIS needs and preferences are met. This can lead to better outcomes and a more efficient allocation of resources within the participant's plan.

#3 Plan Monitoring and Review

Plan managers are responsible for regularly monitoring participant NDIS plans to ensure that the allocated budget is being used effectively and meeting the participant’s goals and needs. At In Choice, we ensure that participants receive a monthly budget report, have access to our online platform for in-real-time budget reports, and receive regular budget reviews to ensure funding isn’t being overspent or underspent. If overspending or underspending is occurring, we can provide resources to assist participants to get their funding back on track.

#4 Reporting and Documentation

It’s important for plan managers to maintain accurate and comprehensive records of financial transactions, service agreements, and other relevant documentation. Doing this enables plan managers to monitor allocated funding, and support participants to make informed decisions when using their plan funding. Documentation also serves as a reference point for any potential audits or reviews in line with NDIS guidelines and regulations. Ultimately, maintaining documentation helps to maintain integrity, consistency, and accountability within the NDIS framework and ensures that participants receive the appropriate supports and services they are entitled to.

#5 Support and Advocacy

Plan managers provide ongoing support and guidance to participants and their families, helping them navigate the complexities of the NDIS system. They may also advocate on behalf of the participant, ensuring their needs are understood and fulfilled by the NDIA and other stakeholders.
